Verizon Communications is the second largest telecommunications provider and the number one wireless services provider in the U.S., as of June 2011. The company's core services are its wireless mobile and broadband services, FiOS TV and high-speed Internet. At least 15.6 million homes have access to Verizon's all-fiber FiOS network.
Mobile
Apart from being one of the four largest wireless carriers in the nation, Verizon is also a leader in wireless call quality. Verizon Wireless, a division of Verizon Communications, oversees the services provided through the company's wireless network. In the J.D. Power and Associates 2011 Wireless Call Quality Performance Study, Verizon Wireless received top ratings in the Mid Atlantic, Northeast, Southeast, Southwest and West regions. The company was also the award recipient in the 2011 Business Wireless Satisfaction Study in the Small and Midsize Business and Home Based Business categories. Consumer Reports conducted a study of over 50,000 readers who overwhelmingly voted Verizon Wireless as the best cellphone service provider overall.
Mobile Broadband
In addition to being a wireless service carrier, Verizon is also a mobile broadband service provider, delivering services through its Verizon Wireless division. Subscribers can choose from a range of mobile broadband plans for smart phones, tablets and other connected devices. The company maintains a 3G and 4G network and offers prepaid plans as well as plans that require a long-term contract.
FiOS TV
Verizon is the provider of an all-fiber optic network that streams standard and high definition programming into the homes of millions of Americans. Subscribers have access to a range of features including the ability to pause, rewind and fast-forward programming, record shows with additional peripherals and watch a plethora of movies and series on-demand. Verizon is also deploying new features and functions to FiOS TV subscribers that will be the first in the market. Content Discovery is one such feature, allowing subscribers to view programs recommended based on what was watched recently.
DSL & FiOS Internet
Verizon Communications is a long distance, VoIP and Internet service provider. Subscribers can order VoIP, DSL or FiOS high-speed Internet through the company. High-speed Internet customers can access download speeds of up to 150 Mbps in some regions with the FiOS service. DSL subscribers will have to settle for lesser speeds, but still should be able to perform most Internet functions seamlessly with speeds of up to 15 Mbps. Verizon's digital phone offerings give subscribers access to unlimited local and long distance calling along with a host of other calling features.
