How to Activate Verizon Residential Call Forwarding

by Matt McGew, Demand Media

Verizon residential phone customers can purchase call forwarding as an optional calling feature. Additionally, call forwarding is an included feature in several residential phone packages. Call forwarding allows you to automatically transfer your incoming calls to another phone number. If you subscribe to call forwarding through Verizon, you will need to activate the feature before forwarding your incoming calls.

Step 1

Lift the handset of your Verizon residential phone.

Step 2

Enter "*72" using your Verizon phone's keypad.

Step 3

Enter the full phone number including the area code for the number where you want your incoming calls transferred. For instance, enter 555-555-5555.

Step 4

Wait for the forwarding phone number to answer the call. You have now activated your Verizon residential call forwarding.

Tips & Warnings

  • During the forwarding activation, if the forwarding phone number is busy or does not answer, hang up and repeat this process within two minutes to complete the activation. The second time you call, you will hear two short tones indicating the activation of your Verizon residential call forwarding.
