Most often, the Comcast remote that you receive with your cable box is a programmable universal remote. A universal remote is a remote control that works with your television, cable box and any auxiliary set-top boxes, like a digital video recorder and Blu-ray player.
Comcast Remotes
There are four different Comcast remote controls. They are the Comcast Digital Adapter remote, Comcast universal remote with red "OK/Select" button, Comcast universal remote with gray "OK/Select" button and Comcast universal remote in platinum or dark silver.
Comcast Digital Adapter Remote
The Digital Adapter Remote is the only Comcast remote that isn't a universal remote. It can be programmed to control only your TV and your digital to analog receiver set-top box. You can't use it with multiple devices. The other three Comcast remote controls are programmable universal remotes that can be used with common television brands.
Remote Codes
Each different television manufacturer brand, or the make and model of different televisions will have different remote codes. Go to comcast.com to find the program code for your Comcast remote or refer to the small instruction booklet that came with your remote to find the code.
Programing Universal Remote
To program your universal remote, start by turning on your television. Press the button marked "TV" on your remote to make it light up. Press and hold the "Setup" button until the TV button light blinks twice. Press "991." The TV button blinks twice. Aim the remote at your TV. Press "1" and the TV blinks twice again. Press the "Power" button. Press the "CH+" button until the TV turns off. Press "Setup" to program the code into your remote. The TV button will blink twice to signify that the remote has been successfully programmed.
