Qwest Bundle Vs. Comcast Bundle

by Rob Kemmett, Demand Media

Qwest and Comcast are both telecommunication companies that offer bundles, which are packages that include home phone, Internet and cable television services. Bundles are consolidated into one monthly bill and offered at a discounted rate. Compare the bundles that both Qwest and Comcast have to offer, and decide which package is the right one for you.

Bundles

At the time of this article's publication, Qwest offers three different bundles: the 7 Mbps Existing Customer Bundle, the 7 Mbps Double Savings Bundle and the Triple Savings Bundle. Comcast offers one bundle: the XFINITY Triple Play.

Services Provided

Qwest's 7 Mbps Existing Customer Bundle is offered only to existing customers with home phone service. The bundle adds high-speed Internet service to an already existing account for a discounted rate. The 7 Mbps Double Savings Bundle includes high-speed Internet and home phone service with unlimited local and long distance. The Triple Savings Bundle includes high-speed Internet, home phone service with unlimited local and long distance, and DirecTV satellite television service with three months of free HBO, Cinemax, Showtime and Starz. Comcast's XFINITY Triple Play includes high-speed Internet; digital home phone service with unlimited local and long distance; and over 160 channels of digital cable television, with three months of free HBO.

Optional Features and Bonuses

Both Qwest and Comcast give customers the option to upgrade their cable television service to include premium channels and sports packages. Comcast offers an optional high-definition DVR service and faster Internet service. Although the Triple Savings Bundle is offered by Qwest, the television service you receive comes from DirecTV. DVR service and channel upgrades are provided by DirecTV, but the upgrades will appear on your monthly Qwest bill. Each additional option adds to the total of the monthly bill. Comcast includes a free $150 prepaid Visa gift card with the purchase of the Triple Play bundle. The purchase of an upgraded Triple Play package is rewarded with a gift card of up to $250. Qwest does not offer rewards for purchasing a bundle.

Price

Qwest's 7 Mbps Existing Customer Bundle is $14.95 per month, with a five-year price lock guarantee, meaning the price will not change for five years. The 7 Mbps Double Savings Bundle is $59.95 per month, with a five-year price lock guarantee, and the Triple Savings Bundle is $89.95 per month (after rebates and bill credits). The Triple Savings Bundle requires the purchase of a two-year DirecTV contract and does not have a five-year price lock guarantee. Comcast's Triple Play costs $119.99 per month, with a required contract of one year. Upgraded bundles cost between $139.99 and $159.99 per month. Taxes and additional fees for installation, equipment rental and DVR service are not included with the purchase price.
