Comcast Corporation, one of the leading telecommunications providers in the United States, offers cable-based telephone, Internet and television services for home and business use. Depending on your installation needs, Comcast may have a technician come to your location and professionally install your cable services, which will show up on your first bill as an installation fee. While this installation fee is standard in the industry, there are ways of potentially avoiding this surcharge on your bill.
Step 1
Speak with a Comcast sales representative and voice your concerns with paying an installation fee. In some cases, you can have the installation fee waived if you are signing up for a one- or two-year contract. If you are already a Comcast subscriber in good standing and are adding an additional service to your account, you might be able to talk the representative into waiving the installation fee.
Step 2
Request a self-installation kit, which contains all of the necessary components to set up your new cable service. The installation fee is to cover the costs of having a Comcast technician come to your home or business to set up your new service; if you feel comfortable doing it yourself, the self-installation kit comes at no extra charge and there is no need for an installation fee.
Step 3
Ask a Comcast sales representative about any current or future promotional deals that include free installation. In some cases, you can sign up for cable services through Comcast's website and have the installation fee waived for doing so. Also, at some times of the year, Comcast will offer free installation for special promotional events.
